Visit by Retired Railwaymen

The Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway at Cynheidre were very pleased to host a visit by 25 members of Neath Great Western Retired Staff Club on Saturday 15th September 2018. The group arrived mid morning by coach at the railways base at the former Cynheidre Colliery site and enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of the workshop and heritage centre. Later, following a fish & Chip lunch at a local establishment, the group were treated to Brake Van rides behind resident Sentinel Diesel No. 10222.

The Neath Great Western Retired Staff Club meet every Wednesday afternoon in Neath

Workingmen’s Club, with members coming from Swansea, Port Talbot, the valleys and surrounding area. The club ethos is that anyone can join, whether they are retired rail staff or not and they have many members who are keen rail enthusiasts but have not worked on the railway. The emphasis is enjoyment with slide shows, talks and presentations, as well as trips to heritage railways.

The Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway is now closed until December when our popular Santa Special trains return, for the first time on two consecutive days, the weekend of 8thand 9th December. In addition to the train ride all children will receive a gift from Santa. Seasonal refreshments will also be available. Tickets will be available soon from the following web link https://www.llanellirailway.co.uk/events-booking The railway is hoping to grow into a major tourist attraction for the Llanelli district and in order to reach our goals we need more volunteer help in all departments including operational, maintenance and restoration, and administration.
