Territorial Army carry out training exercise at the LMMR

The Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway at Cynheidre are currently undergoing a major phase of expansion courtesy of a track laying exercise by the army at the railway. We were pleased today, Monday 1st October, to host a visit by Nia Griffith MP (Shadow Defence minister) along with Deputy Mayor Suzy Curry and John Evans of Llanelli Rural Council Felinfoel Ward. Pupils from Furnace Primary School also attended and were given a tour and explanation of the work being carried out by the army.

The army track laying exercise started a week ago and will continue until the end of this week. It should result in an extension to the running line of about 340 metres from the end of the current track which will give us about 520 metres of usable track. They are also installing a run round facility at the Cynheidre station and generally upgrading the running line. It is hoped that a section of the new extension will be available for use during our next open days for our Santa Specials on 8thand 9th December. Tickets can be pre-booked at https://www.llanellirailway.co.uk/events-booking

In order to continue developing the railway needs an influx of new volunteers. If you are interested in joining us we will be holding a volunteer recruitment day at Cynheidre on Saturday 20thOctober at 11am. Prospective new volunteers will get the opportunity to view the railways facilities and recent developments plus get the chance for a train ride. For more information or to volunteer please visit our website at https://www.llanellirailway.co.ukor Facebook page at www.facebook.com/llanellirailway
