The LMMR makes a successful return!

The Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway held its first post Pandemic Open day at its base at Cynheidre on Saturday 26th June. The day featured the first public use of recently arrived Pacer Railcar 142 006.

Thanks to a lot of hard work by the lines volunteers it was able to welcome the public for pre-booked and socially distanced rides. A pleasing number of visitors attended generating much needed income for the volunteer run line. A spokesman commented ‘we are very pleased with the attendance. Everybody had a good time and our procedures seemed to work well, we now look forward to the next running day on the last Saturday of July’.

Visitors were also able to inspect the very recently arrived class 143 Pacer Railcars 143 606 and 143 607, enjoy the picnic areas in our large grounds and visit the shop and viewing area in the main shed housing our Dutch Shunter and Bubble Car. Our good friends from the Gloucester Carriage and Wagon Museum, now based at the railway, had a display and sales stand plus our Heritage Centre charting the history of the site was open.

There are plans for a ‘Pacer Gala Day’, featuring all three units now based on the line. This is provisionally planned for the last Saturday of August, but please do check in advance at www.llanellirailway.co.uk for more details and information on any Covid restrictions that may apply on that date.
