William Desmond Thomas (Des Thomas)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the railway’s founder, previous chairman and guiding light for over two decades, Des Thomas.
It is no understatement to say that without Des’s courage and commitment to the cause there would be no Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway today for us all to enjoy at Cynheidre. He fought and won many battles in support of the railway.
Ironically, he passed away on the morning of Saturday 26th March - our season opening Mixed Traction Gala, a strange coincidence that would not have been lost on him.
Appropriately Des’s last journey will commence from the railway site at Cynheidre on Friday 8th April with his funeral cortege leaving the railway at 11am. Full funeral details can be found in the link below.
